Waltham Forest Pool & Track

Jun 2016

As part of the successful  Greenwich Leisure bid proposal for the management of the LBWF leisure facilities, SPACE & PLACE was appointed as lead designers to prepare scheme proposals for the development of the borough’s existing leisure centres at the Plum Tree Studios, Leyton Leisure Lagoon, Cathall Leisure Centre and Waltham Forest Pool & Track sites. S&P was an integral part of the delivery team which included cost advice from contractors ISG.

The Waltham Forest Leisure Centre (Waltham Forest Pool & Track) proposal was for a new  86,000 sq ft wet and dry leisure centre to replace the existing 1960’s swimming pool facility.  The facilities which also had an adjacent athletics track, were showing signs of age and struggling to meet the current requirements expected of a modern day facility.

The new centre comprises of:

  • 25m 8 lane competition pool
  • 1m and 3m diving facilities
  • Teaching pool
  • Wet and dry spa
  • 4 court sports hall
  • Kids play, café, multi-use activities area
  • Aerobics studios
  • 134 station fitness suite
  • Extreme sports external MUGA
  • Athletics track and associated change and administration areas.

The centre will be the flagship sports and leisure facility in the London Borough of Waltham Forest and opened to the public in Autumn 2016.
