The University of Warwick’s strategy is to encourage a healthy university life and bring world-class facilities to the campus. The University’s goal is by 2020 to become “the “most physically active campus community in the UK”. The new sports hub is key to achieving this, it will provide one of the best sports facilities available at any UK university.
The new hub, which is both operationally and environmentally sustainable, it has replaced all existing campus sporting facilities. It includes a sports hall; swimming pool; fitness suites; climbing and bouldering walls and flexible studio spaces; as well as squash courts; outdoor 3G sports pitches and netball courts. It is the official training ground of Coventry’s Wasps Netball super-league team.
The University master plan embeds the principles of an active landscape and the design approach delivers this. Externally there are sports pitches, netball courts, car parking and both hard and soft landscaping.
