SPACE & PLACE undertook the feasibility study and public consultation for the revitalization of Rhyl.
The Hospitality phase of the Rhyl Coastal facilities consists of an Events Centre attached to the existing Pavilion Theatre, hotel, family public house, class A3 units and new car parking facilities.
The new Events Centre is to be built on the grounds of the old Sun Centre, and will provide a music venue to complement the successful Pavilion Theatre, which attracts live music, entertainment and comedy. The Venue will be able to accommodate up to 4100 standing and up to 2500 seated. The new facilities will attract trade shows to the Ice Rink and events such as a Christmas wonderland.
The venue will also be designed to accommodate National Governing Bodies of sports provision for bowls and volleyball with spectator seating, enabling competitions and tournaments to take place. Incorporated into the designs are several bars in the main hall and a Sea View bar/bistro, Sea View Restaurant and several function rooms. The adjoining hotel, a 73-bedroom Travel Lodge, is spread over 4 floors with panoramic sea views of Rhyl’s world-famous sandy beaches.
The hospitality phase is the starting point of a further six phases of work, to include a recreation phase, an outdoor arena and refurbished outdoor area (with a fabric tensile roof), Sea Life aquarium, a town plaza and a leisure centre.
