Wigston Pool & Leisure Centre

SPACE & PLACE was appointed by Sport Leisure Management to support them in the successful DBOM procurement process for Wigston Pool and Fitness Centre.
A feasibility study was carried out on the existing 1960’s pool and fitness facilities and it was concluded that a new purpose built facility was going to be the most appropriate solution. The existing building was demolished and the new single storey centre was given an alternative location/orientation on the site. This allowed for a fully glazed north facing façade for the swimming pool hall which provided a significant improvement from the original south facing glazed façade that caused heating issues in the original building. The revised location also allowed the car parking area to act as a buffer to the busy adjacent road.
The new centre facilities include a 6 lane, 25m swimming pool with adjacent sauna and a 60 station fitness suite which is over double the size of the previous facility. Separate dry and wet change provision is also included.
The pool use includes recreational and fitness swimming as well as a venue for club/school swimming, but it also provides 150 spectator seats so the centre can host Galas and swim events up to County standard.
