The University of Warwick’s strategy is to encourage a healthy university life and bring world-class facilities to the campus. The University’s goal is by 2020 to become “the “most physically active campus community in the UK”. The new sports hub is key to achieving this, it will provide one of the best sports facilities available at any UK university.
The new hub, which is both operationally and environmentally sustainable, it has replaced all existing campus sporting facilities. It includes a sports hall; swimming pool; fitness suites; climbing and bouldering walls and flexible studio spaces; as well as squash courts; outdoor 3G sports pitches and netball courts. It is the official training ground of Coventry’s Wasps Netball super-league team.
The University master plan embeds the principles of an active landscape and the design approach delivers this. Externally there are sports pitches, netball courts, car parking and both hard and soft landscaping.
Facilities include:
- 12 x lane 25m Swimming Pool with vertical boom; 3 lanes of movable floor
- 12 x court sports and spectator seating
- 4 x court sports hall
- Large climbing wall and bouldering provision – the largest in the UK higher education sector
- 300 x station fitness suite with strength & conditioning area
- 6 x squash courts
- 4 studios, 1 combat studio, multi-purpose room, spin and ergo rooms
- 5 x consultation rooms
- Café /kitchen provision
- 5x 5-a-side football pitches
- Outdoor 3G sports and netball courts
