Thame Sports and Arts Centre
January 2003
This SPACE & PLACE design project had high profile in the local area and community and involved consultation and collaboration with many local clubs and groups for their input.
Built on the grounds of a school for South Oxfordshire council, Willmott Dixon was chosen as the main contractor on a PPC 2000
The existing arts centre was linked to a new building with a 2 storey foyer and pool (with moveable floor), with the existing reception area being knocked down.
The centre is a public facility and so is designed to be totally accessible by disabled customers by level threshold entrances, lifts to upper floors, separate disabled toilets and changing facilities, drop down bar and reception areas, pool hoists and ambulant disabled steps into the pool and a moveable pool floor for maximum flexibility of the pool.
The project was opened to the public in January 2003 and cost £3.5m
