Swiss Cottage Residential Development and Leisure Centre

November 2006

Swiss Cottage is a 34,000m2 redevelopment in North London, designed to act as a catalyst for the regeneration whilst providing a landmark civil amenity within a mixed-use development.

The scheme comprises housing, of which 75% is private and 25% is affordable, a community centre with childcare and doctor’s facilities, retail units and a new leisure centre.

These are integrated with other uses including a theatre, a Grade II listed library, an office complex and a revitalised public square.

The leisure centre is largely transparent with areas of glazing and dramatic void spaces around the main elements of the building. The swimming pools, gymnasium and sports hall are highly visible, projecting dramatic and vibrant views of the building day and night.

SPACE & PLACE believe this is an excellent example of mixed-use urban regeneration, which incorporates the latest sustainability innovations by way of using environmentally friendly and reusable materials with ’eco effective’ service technologies.

S&P worked with Terry Farrell, Bennetts Associates, Gustaffon Porter Ltd and John McAslan and Partners.
