 Springfield Stadium & Oakfield-Frame & Fabric Jersey

May 2022

SPACE&PLACE (S&P) was commissioned to develop the vision for Springfield Stadium, transforming it into the premier sports and wellbeing hub for north St Helier. The project emphasized the integration of health outreach and “closer to home” services. Key upgrades included the addition of a mezzanine area, a new gym, and a studio, alongside comprehensive refurbishments of the changing rooms, entrance area, and reception. The car park and play area were also remodeled to enhance access and functionality.

Simultaneously, the Oakfield project aimed to advance “closer to home” services with the installation of a hybrid 3G pitch and a state-of-the-art multi-sport dome. The sports dome, featuring a modern frame and fabric structure from Collinson’s, combined an open play barn with adjoining changing facilities, reception, and studio areas. The development also included a full-size 3G pitch with catch netting and floodlighting. Given its urban setting, the project required careful consideration of lighting, noise, and disruption, addressed through stakeholder consultations.

In addition to these enhancements, the Springfield Stadium reinvestment focused on meeting Step 3 FA requirements. External improvements included upgraded security fencing and enhancements to the spectator experience, with a particular emphasis on accessibility for people with disabilities. These upgrades, prompted by Jersey Bulls’ transition to the English Football League, were scheduled for completion by May 2022.
