Marine Point, New Brighton
June 2012
The Gateway Building, a two-storey building offering capacity for leisure use, was completed as part of a £60m regeneration scheme on the Wirral.
Leisure specialists SPACE & PLACE worked on the design and delivery of the new complex alongside main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland as part of Neptune Wirral’s Marine Point Mixed-Use development.
The facility is designed to provide a new western “gateway” to the New Brighton site and reflects the surrounding marine environment through its raking facades and roof profiles.
The architecture is influenced both by the previous lido on the site, and the numerous historical seafront structures that remain in the area
“These are embodied in the building’s materiality through the strong white form and rendered facades and the darker contrasting elements.”
