Maystar Medical Centre (North End Medical Centre)

This project was prepared by SPACE & PLACE following extensive searches by all of the design team to find a suitable location in West London.
It was finally decided that a new build speculative unit along the Fulham Palace Road in West London, in what used to be a supermarket, was the most suitably located site, providing a completely different outlook from that of the old Georgian terrace block that previously housed the centre. The long glazed frontage and two story height of the new site allows an interesting ’shopfront’ and the ability to create mezzanine accommodation within the space.
One major challenge in changing the intended use of the existing space was to address daylight entering into the consulting rooms without compromising confidentiality with patients. Also, the large waiting area benefits from borrowed light from over the consulting rooms that were constructed as pods to achieve the acoustic requirements.
The DV congratulated S&P on its innovation in achieving the quality of the design on this challenging scheme.
