Building a Future for Kings Cross Sport

SPACE & PLACE (S&P) were appointed to design the sports fit-out for King’s Cross Sports Hall Q2. Bennetts Associates designed the shell and core of the building, and the structure was originally used as a Construction Skills Centre (CSC), with the intention of converting it into a sports facility after its first three years of use.

Working collaboratively with Bennetts from the early design stages, S&P ensured the building was future-proofed through considered space planning and service coordination to support its later transformation. Returning at RIBA Stage 4, S&P delivered the internal fit-out in two phases. Phase 1 introduced first-floor changing facilities, studios and a gym, while Phase 2 transformed the ground-floor CSC into a fully functioning sports hall, gym and additional changing facilities.

The remodelling phase of King’s Cross Sports Hall Q2 for Camden Council marks a significant milestone in enhancing community sports facilities. The project focused on refurbishing the ground floor sports phase from an existing training centre, aiming to elevate the functionality and appeal of the space. With meticulous attention to detail, the renovation encompasses upgrading amenities, improving accessibility, and optimising layout to better accommodate diverse sporting activities. The revitalised sports hall was poised to become a dynamic hub for fitness enthusiasts and athletes alike, offering state-of-the-art facilities that cater to various sporting disciplines.

Results

Camden Council’s commitment to fostering an active and inclusive community is reflected in this renovation effort, which sought to provide residents with a modern and inviting space to pursue their fitness goals and engage in recreational pursuits. As the remodelling phase unfolded, King’s Cross Sports Hall Q2 emerged as a premier destination for sports and wellness in the Camden area.
