Holmes Place Star City Birmingham

November 2000

Completed in 2000 for Holmes Place, the 5,000m2 health club fit out in Birmingham’s new Star City Leisure World linked the commercial health and fitness provider’s club to its national network of city clubs in Manchester, Nottingham and London, costing £6.5m.

The complexity of building two swimming pools into an existing shell and core entering off the main atrium of the Leisure Mall, lead to the provision of two stainless steel (Invarmex) pools to attract new members into a relaxed and tranquil oasis in the city.

The main double height gym space is elliptical in form, which is the theme throughout the design with gentle curves guiding users into the central space. A little natural light was available; the lighting scheme provides a gentle glow to all areas.

Facilities include:

  • Fitness Pool (stainless steel) 20x10m (1.2m deep)
