Holly Hill Leisure Centre

June 2017

After winning a design competition, S&P designed the Holly Hill Leisure Centre in Fareham, Hampshire. In this process, we collaborated closely with Fareham Borough Council, SLM, and Balfour Beatty to ensure a smooth design and delivery process. Consequently, we completed the leisure centre in 2017, showcasing our expertise in architectural design and project management.

The Holly Hill Leisure Centre promotes community health and well-being through a range of facilities. Specifically, it features a 25-meter, six-lane swimming pool and a learner pool for all ages and skill levels. Additionally, the state-of-the-art, 100-station gym caters to fitness enthusiasts, while the spin studio and dance studio offer spaces for group exercise classes as well as personal training sessions. Together, these features underscore the centre’s commitment to diverse sports and leisure activities.

The building’s design incorporates two distinct architectural forms. On one hand, the curved, lightweight structure with a transparent facade visually connects the interior activity areas with the surrounding wooded landscape, allowing natural light to fill the swimming pool and gym. This design enhances users’ sense of openness and connection to nature. On the other hand, the lower, solid element houses the main entrance, functional areas, as well as the dance studio, thereby ensuring efficient space use and easy navigation for visitors.
