High Wycombe Sports & Leisure Centre 

High Wycombe’s New Leisure Hub: 50-Meter Pool, 12-Court Sports Hall, and more at Handy Cross.

The Wycombe Leisure Centre, including the Marlow Running Track and John Hampden School facilities, is currently under development at the Handy Cross Hub in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Once completed, this vibrant project will be part of a larger complex featuring a Park and Ride facility, offices, and a hotel. The leisure centre will include a state-of-the-art 50-meter competition pool, teaching and children’s pools, and a spacious 12-court sports hall covering approximately 2,000 square meters for various community activities. It will also offer additional amenities such as a 4-lane bowling rink, a fully equipped gymnasium, and dedicated fitness studios, providing a comprehensive range of options for visitors.

We have relocated the existing Handy Cross athletic facilities to a new site three miles away in Marlow. There, we have installed a new 400-meter all-weather outdoor running track that meets UK Athletics and Sport England standards. This track features provisions for javelin, hammer and discus throw, shot put, high jump, long and triple jump, and pole vault, all with competition-standard floodlighting. Additionally, we have repurposed the shell of a pre-existing agricultural building on this site to house changing and club facilities, utilizing modified shipping containers.

Furthermore, we have successfully relocated an all-weather playing surface to the nearby John Hampden School, ensuring continued access to high-quality sports facilities as part of this development. The Wycombe Leisure Centre will provide a wide array of amenities designed to meet various fitness, sports, and recreational needs, making it an inclusive destination for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Results

Overall, this project significantly enhances the local community’s sports infrastructure, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging active participation in both competitive and leisure activities. Once completed, the Wycombe Leisure Centre will serve as a central hub for fitness, relaxation, and community engagement.
