Aquadrome Basingstoke

SPACE & PLACE designed and developed the Basingstoke Aquadrome, one of the most comprehensive and inclusive swimming and ‘well-being’ destinations to be provided by a local authority in the UK.
The project acted as a benchmark, demonstrating how the funding local authority and private operator, running the Aquadrome on their behalf, can work successfully in partnership.
The comprehensive swimming facilities cater for a wide cross-section of the community and include a 25m competition pool, 20m training pool with moveable floor
and 1200m2 leisure pool with the first variable speed action river in Europe, a Masterblaster and Spacebowl. 50,000 rides of the flumes were enjoyed within a month of opening.
The fitness suite, consisting of a 1,800m2 gym and spa was conceived and designed, and is operated as a private club, producing additional revenue to offset the running costs associated with the three pools. Over 1,800 members have joined the gym since it opened.
