The Olympic Media Village is located in Marousi, Athens, close to the Olympic Stadium, home of the 2004 Olympic Games.
The scheme incorporated a full mix of uses including 277 apartments to accommodate journalists for the duration of the games, after which they have been converted into luxury residential apartments. These are supported by an 80,000m2 shopping centre with cinemas, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities, sustaining a high quality retail offer.
The design intention was to achieve an overall building form that would facilitate the flow of movement, as well as enhance visual interaction and the scheme’s legibility. Each element can be clearly identified, yet work together successfully as a whole.
The development appeals to the general population of Athens and has been designed to attract both international and local retail and leisure operators.
SPACE & PLACE was the lead architect for the whole of the development in partnership with Ergotex Services of Athens.
