The proposed redevelopment provides a replacement for the Brook Activity Centre which currently consists of a 3 court sports hall, a basic gym and a community room. It also provides extensive outdoor grass pitches, one of which has been upgraded to a 3G surface, all served by a purpose built, team changing facility.
The vision for the new facility is to provide enhanced and additional facilities that will increase the number of visitors and encourage increased participation. The new building will provide a 25m 4 lane pool with balcony spectator seating of 25 seats, a 5 court Sports Hall, a 60 station fitness suite, a dedicated spin studio and a multi-function room that can provide for fitness classes or community use. This multi-function room will be supported by a small warm-up kitchen and prep area to cater for community events.
The new facility it is intended be the main focus for the site and it will continue to provide excellent out-door facilities.
The proposal includes a 3G GAA pitch with two football pitches overlaid, a hurling wall, 3 5-a-side pitches and 3 additional covered 5-a-side pitches. These pitches will be complemented with the appropriate team changing facilities within the main building. The recently upgraded football pitch is to be retained. The outdoor facilities will also include for a new playground and a trim/buggy trail.
The facility will be designed to meet modern user expectations whilst minimising long term costs through highly efficient building envelope and service.
