Anchor Street Residential Development Bishops Stortford

Mar 2005

The site known as John Dyde Training College was used by British Gas for the training of gas engineers. The College closed some years ago and environmental work was undertaken to clean the site.

The site is adjacent to the town centre and lies within an area identified by East Hertfordshire District Council for regeneration purposes, where housing was particularly welcomed. This site was seen as a further phase in the redevelopment of this part of the town centre, which began with the opening of the leisure facilities in 2000.

The development is very much in line with Government Policy, which seeks to encourage housing development on brownfield sites within or near to town centres where there are good links to transport, shopping, cultural and other facilities.

The developers were keen to work with the Council to bring forward this development at the earliest opportunity, as there was a shortage of this type of housing in the town.
