Nova Centre

June 2015

From Rundown to Revitalised: The Nova Leisure Centre’s Dramatic 18-Month Makeover.

Denbighshire County Council appointed SPACE&PLACE (S&P) to revitalize the Nova Leisure Centre in Prestatyn. The once-closed and dilapidated facility, which included the historic Starlight Suite where The Beatles performed in 1964, underwent a comprehensive transformation.

The redesign focused on modernizing the centre while preserving its historical significance. The 25-meter, four-lane pool was refurbished and complemented by new, open-plan poolside changing facilities. The former restaurants and bars were replaced with a 60-station fitness gym. The historic Starlight Suite was converted into two versatile dance studios, which can also function as a suite for events, complete with a dedicated bar for weddings, retirement parties, and other gatherings.

A new entrance foyer was created to provide access to the pool hall, fitness suite, and studios. The centre now boasts a spacious, modern three-story soft play area, spanning 300 square meters. These amenities are seamlessly connected by a new café area, featuring upgraded kitchens to support both a children’s café and the Sea View Restaurant. The restaurant offers spectacular views of the Irish Sea through large picture windows, enhancing the dining experience.

A state-of-the-art leisure facility was created for local residents and visitors alike through this transformation. The project was completed in less than 18 months, from the initial appointment to the final finish.
