Abbey Leisure Centre

The Abbey Leisure Centre was built to replace the existing 1980s Abbey Sports Centre. Completing one of the final pieces in the Barking Town Centre Development Programme, the centre comprises a 6-lane 25m community pool and a 17 x 8m teaching pool.

Other facilities include:

  • Themed kids play area and café
  • Health & beauty suite with a hydrotherapy pool, Salt Grotto, Aroma Steam, Crystal Steam, Rock Sauna
  • Feature showers on the wet side
  • Four wet and dry treatment rooms with a juice bar and lounge on the dry side.

Completing the ground floor facilities is a village/group changing area serving the pool areas and dry change facilities serving the spa and first floor fitness areas.

On the first floor there is a 135 station fitness suite, martial arts studio and two aerobics studios. There is also a viewing gallery overlooking the pool area.

The project was successfully completed in March 2015 at a cost of £13m.
